Abstract

This study aims to describe in depth the role of KKN students from Muhammadiyah University of Sampit in the literacy eradication program for parents in Batuah Village. Considering that there are still adults who experience limitations in basic literacy due to obstacles in access to education in the past, the presence of KKN students is crucial as agents of change. This study uses a qualitative approach with a retrospective case study type to evaluate the experience of program implementation in 2025. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with KKN alumni, students, and community leaders, and supported by observation and documentation studies. The focus of this research analysis covers three dimensions of the main role of students: the educational role as an instructional strategy designer, the facilitative role in providing learning resources, and the role of motivators in reducing psychosocial barriers for residents. The results of this study are expected to provide a comprehensive picture of the real contributions of students, field challenges, and strategies implemented, to develop a more humanistic, contextual, and sustainable literacy mentoring model for universities in the future.
