Abstract

The study on the effect of cohesiveness on self-esteem among students at SMA Negeri 4 Kota Jambi was motivated by the importance of social relationships in adolescent psychological development. Cohesiveness formed through relationships with peers, teachers, and the school environment is presumed to play a role in building students' positive self-assessment. This study aims to determine the effect of cohesiveness on students' self-esteem. This research employed a quantitative method with an ex post facto approach. The research sample consisted of 274 students selected using a stratified random sampling technique. The instruments used were the cohesiveness scale based on Springer et al. (2009) and the self-esteem scale based on Heatherton and Polivy (1991). The data analysis technique used was simple linear regression. The results showed that students' cohesiveness fell into the high category at 72.76%, while students' self-esteem fell into the moderate category at 63.34%. The analysis showed a significance value of 0.000 and a calculated t-value of 5.217. The R Square value was 0.091. This indicates that cohesiveness has a positive and significant effect on students' self-esteem, with a contribution of 9.1%.
