Reconstructing Family Resilience Amid Conflict:The Role of Christian Religious Education in Jayapura Regency
DOI:

Family conflict is a complex social phenomenon influenced by legal, economic, interpersonal, behavioral, and spiritual factors. In Jayapura Regency, family disputes are often addressed through legal responses after conflicts escalate, while preventive approaches that integrate social, educational, and religious dimensions remain limited. This study aims to analyze the patterns, causes, consequences, and institutional responses to family conflicts and to reconstruct the role of Christian Religious Education (CRE) as a preventive and restorative framework for strengthening family resilience. The study employed a qualitative descriptive approach using police records and interviews with church leaders, CRE teachers, and families experiencing conflict. The findings reveal that recurring family conflicts involve physical violence, economic pressure, alcohol consumption, infidelity, unhealthy communication, unclear family responsibilities, and vulnerabilities arising from differences between religiously recognized and legally registered marriages. The study further identifies that family conflicts affect not only couples but also children through emotional insecurity, trauma, behavioral changes, and the potential transmission of violent conflict patterns. CRE is proposed as a lifelong family education process that extends beyond doctrinal instruction toward premarital guidance, parenting education, communication development, moral formation, conflict resolution, child protection, and relational restoration. This study contributes a contextual framework by integrating legal institutions, religious communities, educational actors, and families as interconnected components in preventing and addressing family conflict in Jayapura Regency.References
