This study aims to explore the character education values embedded in the traditions of the Bayan Indigenous Community, followers of Wetu Telu in North Lombok, and to formulate their relevance as a foundation for developing contextual Islamic education based on local wisdom. The study is motivated by the fact that the Wetu Telu tradition, as a form of dialectical interaction between Islam and Sasak culture, embodies a system of noble values, including honesty, social responsibility, mutual cooperation, respect for ancestors, and harmony with nature. However, these values have not been systematically explored as a foundation for character education within Islamic educational institutions. This research employed a qualitative approach with an ethnographic design. Data were collected through participant observation of traditional rituals and customary activities, in-depth interviews with customary leaders (pemangku), Islamic religious leaders (kiai), and elders of the Bayan Indigenous Community, as well as documentation studies of relevant written sources and local archives. Data were analyzed through the processes of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, with source triangulation employed to ensure the trustworthiness of the findings. The findings reveal that the adat gama and luir gama traditions practiced by the Bayan Indigenous Community embody character education values, including deliberation (gundem), spiritual steadfastness, simplicity, and ecological balance, all of which are substantively aligned with the objectives of moral (akhlaq) education in Islam. The novelty of this study lies in reconstructing the traditional values of the Bayan community not merely as objects of anthropological inquiry but as a concrete source of inspiration for developing curricula and character education models grounded in local wisdom within Islamic educational institutions.References
