The Influence of the Project Based Learning Model on Student Creativity in Social Studies Instruction for Grade VIII Students at MTsM Saning Bakar

This study was motivated by the low creativity of eighth-grade students in Social Studies (IPS) at MTsM Saning Bakar due to the dominance of the lecture method, which made students less active. This study aims to examine the effect of the Project Based Learning model on students' creativity. The method used was a quasi-experiment with a population of all eighth-grade students of MTsM Saning Bakar for the 2025/2026 academic year, totaling 45 students. The research sample consisted of 29 students selected through a purposive sampling technique based on the criteria of academic equivalence. Class VIII A was designated as the experimental group, while Class VIII C served as the control group. Data analysis techniques utilized the Independent Sample t-test and ANOVA. The results showed that the Project Based Learning model had a positive and significant effect on students' creativity in Social Studies. This was evidenced by the average creativity score of the experimental class reaching 63.55% (creative category), which was higher than that of the control class, which only obtained 40.65% (less creative category). These findings indicate that the more optimal the implementation of the Project Based Learning model, the higher the level of students' creativity. Thus, this project-based learning model is proven to be effective in developing students' creativity through their active involvement in project completion.References
