Ada empat ketrampilan berbahasa dalam pelajaran Bahasa Indonesia, yaitu kemampuan mendengarkan, berbicara , membaca dan menulis. Ketrampilan itu saling berhubungan dan mendukung seseorang yang belajar bahasa untuk menguasai seluruhnya. Khusus yang penulis amati di MI Muhammadiyah Arenan Kecamatan Kaligondang Kabupaten Purbalingga, bahwa ketrampilan berbicara para siswa , masih sangat rendah. Kenyataan ini didukung oleh minat siswa dalam belajar Bahasa Indonesia memang masih rendah pula. Untuk itu agar siswa lebih meningkat kemampuan ketrampilan dalam berbicara , penulis melakukan inovasi dengan pembelajaran kooperatif model Teams Games Tournament ( TGT ) di MI Muhammadiyah Arenan.
