Abstract

Destination competitiveness has traditionally been conceptualized through resource endowments, accessibility, and conventional service infrastructure. However, rapid technological innovation and acute ecological challenges require a fundamental paradigm shift. This study proposes an integrated conceptual framework that synthesizes smart infrastructure (IoT sensor networks, AI-driven visitor management systems, cloud data hubs) with environmental, socio-cultural, and economic sustainability indicators to redefine destination competitiveness. Grounded in the Resource-Based View (RBV), Dynamic Capabilities Theory, and Systems Theory, this research demonstrates how digital intelligence acts as a catalyst for resource efficiency, overtourism mitigation, and enhanced visitor experiences while protecting natural and cultural heritage. The framework delivers strategic guidance for Destination Management Organizations (DMOs), urban planners, and policy makers seeking to balance long-term sustainability with global market competitiveness.
