Abstract

Women migrant workers are one of the potential human resources that contribute a lot of foreign exchange to the state and region. Migrant workers hope that by migrating, they can improve the welfare of their families. However, there is a phenomenon in the community of former female migrant workers in Sumbawa who remain poor even though they have repeatedly left to work abroad. This has led to economic unsustainability. To study this, it can be seen from a cultural and structural perspective. From the cultural aspect is the existence of wastefulness, fatalistic attitudes and dependency conditions. Meanwhile, the structural aspect is the exploitation of agents. The purpose of this study is to analyse the extent to which the cultural and structural aspects of former female migrant workers influence economic unsustainability and to formulate alternative solutions that support the economic sustainability of former female migrant workers in Kabupaten Sumbawa. The research method used is quantitative with the help of smartPLS software. The results showed that the influence of cultural and structural aspects of former female migrant workers on the economic unsustainability of former female migrant workers had a moderate effect tending to be strong. All independent variables have a significant effect on the dependent variable so that all hypotheses proposed are accepted. Alternative solutions offered to support the economic sustainability of former female migrant workers include Skills-Based Economic Empowerment, Access to Capital, Development of Social Networks and Community Support, Improved Financial Literacy and Financial Planning as well as Policy Support and Legal Protection.
