Abstract

Crescent kick speed is a crucial component in Pencak Silat performance; however, it is often limited by the lack of specific physical training methods. This study aimed to determine and compare the effects of lunges training and squat jump training on the speed of crescent kicks among adolescent Pencak Silat athletes of PSHT Kerepkidul Rayon, Nganjuk Branch. This study employed a quantitative approach using an experimental method with a Two-Group Pretest–Posttest Design, involving 16 athletes who were divided into two groups using the ordinal pairing technique. Data were collected using a 10-second crescent kick speed test and analyzed using the t-test. The results demonstrated that both training methods had a significant effect. The lunges training group showed an average improvement of 1.25 kicks (p = 0.019), while the squat jump training group improved by an average of 1.63 kicks (p = 0.009). Although the independent comparison test indicated no statistically significant difference between the two training methods (p = 0.486), squat jump training produced a greater average improvement. It can be concluded that both training methods are effective in improving crescent kick speed; however, squat jump training demonstrated superior efficiency. These findings suggest that coaches may prioritize squat jump training programs to optimize lower-limb explosive power and enhance athletes' attacking performance in competition.
