Implementation of Traditional Sports to Improve Student Character in PE Learning at MI Miftahul Mubtadiin, Jarak Village

This research is based on the low level of cooperative and hard-working characters among fourth and fifth-grade students at MI Miftahul Mubtadiin, Jarak Village. This condition is indicated by students' low participation in cooperating during learning, a tendency to play individually, a lack of involvement in group activities, and easily giving up when facing difficulties in completing learning tasks. One effort that can be made to develop these characters is through the application of traditional sports in Physical Education, Sports, and Health (PESH) learning. This research aims to analyze the effect of applying traditional sports on improving the cooperative and hard-working characters of fourth and fifth-grade students at MI Miftahul Mubtadiin, Jarak Village. This research uses a quantitative approach with a Pre-Experimental design of the One Group Pretest-Posttest Design type. The research population consisted of all fourth and fifth-grade students at MI Miftahul Mubtadiin, Jarak Village, totaling 40 students. The sampling technique used was saturated sampling (total sampling), so that all members of the population were used as research samples. The instruments used were questionnaires for cooperative and hard-working characters which had been declared valid and reliable. The treatment was given for 16 meetings through the application of four types of traditional sports, namely gobak sodor, bakiak, bentengan, and boy-boyan. Data analysis was carried out using descriptive statistics, the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, and the Paired Sample t-Test hypothesis test with the help of SPSS software. The results showed that the application of traditional sports provided a significant effect on improving the students' cooperative and hard-working characters. This is proven by the results of the Paired Sample t-Test which obtained a significance value (Sig. 2-tailed) of 0.001 for both variables, which is smaller than the significance level of 0.05 (0.001 < 0.05), so the research hypothesis is accepted. Thus, the application of traditional sports is proven effective as an alternative for PESH learning in improving the cooperative and hard-working characters of fourth and fifth-grade students at MI Miftahul Mubtadiin, Jarak Village.References
